The Academy of St Martin in the Fields join forces with the Academy of English Voices and star soloist Martin James Bartlett for a Celebration of Mozart.
Beginning with the eight-year-old Mozart’s E-Flat Symphony, and concluding with his final masterpiece, the Requiem, it also features the K. 482 Piano Concerto. Using clarinets in the orchestra for the first time, Mozart particularly impresses with the lyrical passages in the slow sections of the concerto, which received a rapturous reception at the first performance in 1785. His father, Leopold, reports that Mozart “had to repeat” the Andante immediately.
